Project GENESIS

Gauging the ENvironmEntal Sustainability of electrIc aircraft Systems

GENESIS tackles all the challenges of the call JTI-CS2-2020-CFP11-THT-13, “Sustainability of Hybrid-Electric Aircraft System Architectures”. To realize its ambition, GENESIS builds on a consortium of nine partners from Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and France.

GENESIS is an ambitious and innovative project, which will bridge the gaps between the usage of electric powertrain and its current technological development and aim at gauging the environmental sustainability of electric aircraft system in a foresight perspective and provide a technology roadmap for a sustainable transition toward electric aircraft systems.

In a context, where society’s production and consumption patterns are globally unsustainable and increasingly cause damage to human health, ecosystems, and natural resources, there is a critical need to steer the aviation sector towards more environmental sustainability.
A focal point towards this achievement lies in addressing the propulsion and power technologies, which currently rely on petroleum-based fuels like kerosene, and should find, in the shortest possible time, alternative and cleaner sources to aircraft propulsion. The project aims at gauging the environmental sustainability of electric aircraft in a foresight perspective and provide a technology roadmap for a sustainable transition toward electric aircraft systems.

The results delivered by GENESIS are expected to contribute significantly to the objectives of the Clean Sky 2 Programme.
